PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING
Aaron Wise, Principal
At AISM, we believe in nurturing not only the academic potential of our students but also their personal growth and development. Our core values—Relevance, Responsibility, and Resilience—serve as the foundation of our vibrant school community, guiding us in every aspect of our educational journey.
Relevance is at the heart of our curriculum and teaching methods. We strive to provide an education that is meaningful and applicable to the real world, preparing our students to navigate the complexities of modern society. By connecting learning to real-life situations, we ensure that our students are engaged and motivated to excel.
Responsibility is integral to our approach to learning. We empower our students to take ownership of their education, encouraging them to set goals, make informed decisions, and contribute positively to society. By instilling a sense of accountability, we prepare our students to navigate the future with confidence and integrity.
Resilience is a key attribute we cultivate in our students. In an ever-changing world, the ability to adapt and overcome challenges is essential. We encourage our students to persevere through difficulties, learn from setbacks, and emerge stronger and more determined. Resilience equips them with the mindset to tackle any obstacle and thrive in diverse environments.
The recent Parent-Teacher Conferences exemplify the importance of working in partnership with parents to enhance our students' educational experiences. These conferences provided a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to come together, discuss student progress, and develop strategies to support their growth both academically and personally.
During these meetings, we witnessed the power of collaboration as parents shared insights about their children's unique strengths and challenges, while teachers offered professional expertise and personalised feedback. This collaborative approach not only reinforces our shared commitment to our students' success but also strengthens the bonds within our school community.
As we continue to navigate the dynamic landscape of education, we remain dedicated to maintaining open lines of communication with our parents. We encourage ongoing dialogue and active involvement in school activities, as we believe that a strong partnership between home and school is key to fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment.
Together, we can ensure that our students at AISM are not only equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to excel academically but also embody the values of Relevance, Responsibility, and Resilience in their everyday lives. We look forward to continuing this journey together, united in our commitment to excellence and holistic development.
Thank you for being an integral part of our AISM community. Your support and partnership are invaluable as we strive to create a nurturing and empowering environment for all our students.
JUNIOR SCHOOL
Michelle Chaplin, Head of Junior School
Our campus certainly has come alive this week with our Parent Teacher Student conferences on Wednesday. The Junior School had an electric energy as students and teachers discussed and shared learning goals, progress and successes together with where to next! It was inspiring to see the smiles on faces and the joy so evident in the open spaces that come with belonging to a great school community.
Congratulations to our families and teachers who in partnership are ensuring the best for our students in their learning.
Next week, we will showcase the talented Year 5 in their production, “Hoodwinked”. Be sure to save the time and date, and be ready for some laughter, song and entertainment. Whether you are a fan of Robin Hood or the Sheriff, Year 5 will be sure to have you on the edge of your seat!
Check out the video below to hear more from one of our main cast members!
I would encourage all parents to ensure they are connected to their year level parent WhatsApp group. If unsure, please contact the classroom teacher. I would also remind all parents they would be regularly checking their Seesaw App for updates and links to stay in touch with what’s happening!
Have a great weekend as we enjoy more of the Olympic Games. Australia is sitting fourth in the medal tally with 7 Golds, 6 Silver and 3 Bronze at the moment, but I am sure more to come! China is in the lead and France 2nd with Japan 3rd. Malaysia is still looking for their medals, but just missed out in the badminton quarter finals!
Lots to celebrate across many countries as we see personal bests and some outstanding successes. Simone Biles - USA Gymnast extraordinaire, Emma McKeon from Australia has secured her 12th Olympic Medal, best ever Australian Olympic medal score. What do we learn from these results? Hard work, resilience, never giving up, being part of a team helps, how to bounce back. These great winners have also had many losses, but have managed to triumph! Congratulations to all our Olympic Champions, those with medals and those without!
Year 2
Ms Kerr, Junior School Year 2 Teacher
The Year 2s have hit the ground running in Term 3 and show no signs of slowing down. It has been a busy and exciting two weeks filled with a variety of activities both inside and outside the classroom.
Inside the Classroom:
In Mathematics, we have started learning about capacity and volume. We look forward to more hands-on practical lessons where we will compare and order different volumes. In English, we have focused on narrative writing, using our imagination to continue stories from short introductions. Our weekly spelling tests have resumed, and we are also working hard on improving our handwriting. In Inquiry lessons this term, we will be taking a trip back through time to explore how people lived in the past. Using a 'time machine,' we will examine how technology has changed over time. Many students have also participated in their first ICAS competitions and have given their best effort.
Outside the Classroom:
Following last term's Inquiry topic, 'The Dance of Stars and Planets: Patterns in Our Sky,' students visited the Planetarium Negara to deepen their understanding of celestial movements and patterns in an engaging environment. They completed a worksheet based on the exhibits and information they explored. The highlight of the visit was watching the show ‘Earth, Moon, and Sun’ on the dome ceiling.
Last week, we celebrated CARE Week. The opening assembly was very exciting as we starred with our singing and movement - well done Year 2! The Year 2s enjoyed all the meaningful activities for R U OK Day and the informative Green Day events, which reminded us how to take care of our planet and leave it better than we found it. We also spent time practicing mindfulness, focusing on being present and calm. Additionally, we emphasised the importance of filling other people's buckets through acts of kindness and positive words, reinforcing the values of empathy and community.
We look forward to the upcoming Book Week and the Year 2 and 3 sleepover in the next few weeks.
LOTE Chinese - CARE Week
Ms Wan and Mr Fong, Junior School LOTE Mandarin Teachers
In conjunction with CARE Week, the Junior School LOTE Mandarin team prepared some exciting activities for the students. One such activity was a unique and engaging sensory walk that brought students closer to nature and fostered their creativity. Teachers led the students around the school compound, where they explored the natural environment and collected leaves, twigs, and other materials. This hands-on experience provided an opportunity for the students to engage with their surroundings and appreciate the beauty and diversity of nature.
After the refreshing ‘Treasure Hunt’, the students returned to their classrooms, where they were encouraged to use the collected materials to create their own pieces of art. This activity allowed them to express their creativity and interpret their experiences in a tangible way. The artworks reflected a wide range of styles and ideas, showcasing the students' individual perspectives and artistic talents.
The LOTE Mandarin-CARE Week activities, such as the sensory walk and art creation, highlight the importance of experiential learning and the connection between nature and creativity. The week was a success, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for the natural world and a sense of accomplishment in their artistic endeavours.
