Pre-University
Scholarships
We offer scholarships to Malaysian citizens not enrolled at AISM, and sitting for their SPM/IB MYP/IGCSE/O Levels every year. The scholarship holders will enter Year 11 and continue to Year 12 at which time they will complete the Higher School Certificate. The Scholarship covers up to 100% of the cost of the Application Fee, Deposit, Admissions Fee and Tuition Fees for Years 11 and 12 at AISM.
Eligibility and Minimum Requirements
- The Scholarship is awarded based on the strength of the student’s academic performance, co-curricular involvement, communication skills and character.
- The applicants’ financial need will be taken into consideration.
- Malaysian students aged 17 to 18 years who are currently not enrolled at the Australian International School Malaysia.
- Malaysian students who will complete or have completed their O-Level, IGCSE, IB MYP, SPM or equivalent examination in 2024.
- Scholarship recipients will commence school in January 2025 enrolling into Year 11.
- Shortlisted Candidates are required to sit for an assessment test and attend an interview.

Comparing Various Pre-University Programs
Pre-University programs vary with different education systems. Popular choices in Malaysia include The Australian New South Wales Higher School Certificate (HSC), Cambridge A Levels and International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. It is important to know the differences in order to make the right choice for your child.
Cambridge
A LEVELS
SUBJECTS
No mandatory subjects. Students typically choose three A Level subjects.
ASSESSMENT
100%
External examination at the end of the final year.
GRADING
Grades are generally awarded on the basis of examination performance, which benefits students who are good in exam conditions.
OUTCOME
Students are given the opportunity to specialise in subjects before determining their career choice.
HSC
(Higher School Certificate)
New South Wales
SUBJECTS
English is mandatory (different levels are available). Students need to choose English plus five other subjects.
ASSESSMENT
50%
Internal school assessment throughout the final year.
50%
External examination at the end of the final year.
GRADING
Students receive an Australian Admissions Tertiary Rank (ATAR) based on their HSC results, which ranks each student against the performance of all other students studying in Australia. The ATAR score is used for entrance into universities globally.
OUTCOME
Broad foundation in core subjects with learning opportunities in specialist subjects.
IB
(International Baccalaureate)
Diploma
SUBJECTS
Students must choose from six areas including Foreign Language, Arts and Science, plus Theory of Knowledge (ToK), Extended Essay and Service components.
ASSESSMENT
20%
Internal school assessment throughout the final year.
80%
External examination at the end of the final year. There are also co-curricular activities included in the assessment.
GRADING
It is graded on a 45-point scale and a minimum of 24 points is required for award of the Diploma. Without the Diploma, it is difficult for a student to secure a university placement.
OUTCOME
Beneficial for students who are strong in broad areas, as students must choose from all 6 domains.

About 50% of AISM graduates were accepted into universities worldwide, while 30% of our graduates go to Australian universities. The rest choose to pursue their tertiary education in Malaysia.
