BUILDING EMPATHY, CHARACTER AND COMMUNITY

Compassion in Action

At Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), our Service Learning program empowers students to connect with the world beyond the classroom. Through meaningful, hands-on projects, learners build empathy, develop leadership and grow into globally responsible individuals.

Learning Through Service

Service Learning at AISM combines community service with academic goals, giving students opportunities to:

Participate in Local &
School-wide Charity Initiatives

From fundraisers to environmental
and social causes.

Contribute to Community

Projects that foster empathy, responsibility
and a global perspective.

Reflect on their Experiences

Linking broader social issues
and personal growth.

Service Learning in Action

Our Service Learning initiatives run throughout the year and involve students from across different year levels, depending on the nature of the project. Some are whole school events that unite our community in support of a cause, while others are led by specific year groups or smaller student teams. Whether ongoing partnerships or one-off campaigns, each initiative provides meaningful opportunities for students to engage with real community needs, develop leadership skills and put compassion into action.

The Matilda Project

Supporting the primary education of children from remote villages in Sabah, housed at Asrama Desa Pukak hostel. In partnership with the Good Shepherd Foundation of Malaysia since 2010, students organise fundraising activities and take part in field trips to strengthen this long-standing commitment.

The Chin Immersion Program

In collaboration with the Chin Student Organisation, this initiative welcomes Chin refugee children to join lessons at AISM once a fortnight. They practise English, experience a structured learning environment and prepare for life in a host country, while our students learn about Chin culture and refugee challenges.

The Giving Tree

Each year, students and parents bring Christmas gifts for children at the Shepherd Centre Foundation in Kajang. The tradition instils gratitude, compassion and awareness of those less fortunate.

Student-led Charity

Student-led initiatives collecting and organising donations for local and international charities. From planning to distribution, students showcase self-motivation, teamwork and leadership skills that Service Learning aims to cultivate.
