SCHOOL LIFE IN OUR EARLY LEARNING CENTRE

Settling In

Joining our ELC might be the first experience of separation for many children from their parents. This may cause anxiety, so it is important that parents and staff work together to support children and to build the special relationships necessary for a successful adjustment. Coping with fresh faces, preschool routines and limits is not easy. However, once your child has established trust and confidence in their new environment and caregivers, the process becomes a lot easier.

You can help your child adjust by:

ELC Visits on Open Days

Visiting with your child helps them to familiarise with the environment, staff and ELC life.

ELC Orientation Day

Attending orientation will help smoothen the transition of settling into our school

Being Calm and Confident

Parents’ anxiety can easily be passed onto a child. Explaining what will happen when you arrive at school in advance and being patient and brave throughout the whole process, will pay off.

Daily Morning Chats

Let us know about any changes or event at home that may affect your child’s day. Likewise, we will be able to tell you about your child’s time in the ELC.

Reassurance Is Key

Let your child know when you are leaving and that you will return. This gives them confidence, as they know at the end of the day, you will be back for them.

THROUGH THE DAILY ROUTINE

Daily Routine

Our daily program is designed to provide a balance between children’s need for active and passive engagement. It includes indoor and outdoor activities, and both group and individual experiences. Each week, our teachers plan a program of learning experiences based on observations made of children’s interests. Designed to foster development, these are linked to the outcomes of the Australian Early Years Learning Framework and delivered using the Reggio Emilia approach.

Group Outdoors Play / Indoor Activities (Based on the weather).

8.50am

Perceptual Motor Program, Learning Connections, or a structured outdoor discovery time.

Morning Tea

Washroom breaks, followed by group meals on picnic mats or tables in the courtyard.

Mat Time/Focus Time

Children come together to explore, discuss and participate in group experiences.

Indoor Activities

Inquiries focusing on language, numeracy, fine motor and thematic activities.

Music & Library Lessons (Once Per Week)

Experiences involving music and literature appreciation.

Rest Time (Nursery Children)

After a storytime session, the children will rest or participate in relaxing activities such as quiet reading, building and yoga.

3:10pm - Home Time

End of School Session for non-Crèche students. All children are the responsibility of their parents after 3.10pm, so please come on time.

Communications

Our children develop a sense of belonging and understanding of the world around them through the involvement of parents and the wider community. To build a partnership between home and school, we encourage parents to join us in the daily program.

Parent Information Meetings

Our Parent/Teacher/Student Learning Conferences are held twice a year, allowing you the opportunity to discuss your child’s learning.

Portfolios

Each child has their own ongoing record of their development throughout the year, reflecting their investigations and interests. These will be sent home at the end of each term, so you can celebrate their learning journey and their development.

Learning Journey
Display Board

These boards are located at the entrance, reflecting the children’s thoughts and new concepts acquired through their learning journeys. These gives parents another point of reference when talking to their child about their learning.

Child Updates

Every Monday, a weekly email newsletter will be sent home to summarise the previous week’s learning as well as giving you important notices and reminders. In addition to that, regular updates, videos and pictures of your children will be sent home using the SeeSaw app.

Urgent messages and reminders will
be sent home occasionally via email.
