Building a Stronger School Community at Australian International School Malaysia

11/05/2026

AISM TEAM

Term 2 is underway at Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), with students returning focused, enthusiastic, and full of community spirit. The first week ended on a high with the Walkathon and Team-Building Day, bringing students, staff, and parents together for a day of energy, connection, and meaningful experiences.

Across the Junior School, students have settled back into routines positively, embracing opportunities both inside and beyond the classroom with confidence, enthusiasm, and a strong sense of belonging.

Sustainability Heroes Walkathon

The AISM Oval was transformed into a sea of creativity and colour during this year’s Sustainability Heroes Walkathon, as students arrived in imaginative costumes made from recycled and reusable materials. From handmade superhero capes to creative eco-inspired outfits, the event showcased not only school spirit, but also the innovation and environmental awareness of our community.

More than just a morning of movement, the Walkathon served as a meaningful initiative supporting AISM’s Service Learning and Global Citizenship programmes. Through lap sponsorships and donations from families, funds were raised to support long-standing community partnerships including CHIN Students, The Good Shepherd, and Uplift Malaysia.

The event highlighted the power of collective action, reminding students that even small efforts can contribute towards making a positive impact both within and beyond the school community.

Team-Building Day

The excitement continued throughout the day as different spaces across the campus were transformed into a variety of team-building experiences designed to encourage collaboration, communication, leadership, and wellbeing.

The Auditorium came alive with the Principal’s Aerobics Challenge, where students and staff joined together in a high-energy session filled with movement and laughter. Meanwhile, the Gym hosted a series of collaborative challenges that encouraged students to work strategically in vertically grouped teams, strengthening teamwork and communication skills across year levels.

In the Library, students explored a range of global causes and reflected on issues impacting communities around the world. These sessions reinforced the importance of empathy, global citizenship, and understanding how teamwork within a school community can translate into meaningful contributions on a broader scale.

At the Black Box Theatre, students and staff participated in Tai Chi sessions focused on mindfulness, balance, and focus. One of the most memorable aspects of the activity was seeing students from different year levels standing side-by-side, moving together in unison and embracing moments of calm amidst an energetic day.

A key focus of Team-Building Day was creating opportunities for students of all ages to connect with one another. By bringing together younger and older students, the activities encouraged mentorship, empathy, and a stronger sense of belonging across the school community. Senior students had the opportunity to lead and support others, while younger students formed connections with role models they could look up to.

The day served as a powerful reminder that at AISM, learning extends far beyond the classroom. Whether through movement, mindfulness, collaboration, or service, students continue building a stronger community while developing the skills, values, and relationships that make the AISM community so special.
