THIMUN Netherlands 2026

04/03/2026

AISM TEAM

During the second week of term, I, along with a dozen fellow delegates, travelled to the Netherlands to attend the prestigious Hague International Model United Nations (THIMUN) conference. Over four intense days, students simulated the United Nations structure and debate, writing resolutions, striving to solve real-world problems, whilst creating connections with people from all over the world.

Our school had 15 different delegates representing the country of Germany and its view on a wide range of topics. Among us was our ambassador and team leader, Olivia, who carried the German flag in the opening and closing ceremonies, representing Germany wholeheartedly. We also had the honour of having Jasmin chairing the General Assembly 3, an extraordinary opportunity for both of them.

On the first day in the largest committee, walking into a conference hall full of strangers, it was daunting. However, once the debate began, the cohesion and teamwork between delegates was unmatched. Friendships were made over signed resolutions, and to me, these connections were one of the most rewarding aspects.

Speaking as a first-time delegate was terrifying as well, wondering if I was going to slip up. But standing in front of people who are not only listening to my ideas but are finding ways to make them better, who are challenging me even when I’m not speaking, is what I believe is what MUN is all about.

On the last day of the conference, many delegates like myself joined to sign people’s placards, and this small piece of card changed my perspective. I’d realised that we are all going to return to different towns, different countries and different continents, and regardless of these differences, we all listened and learned from each other. Future leaders are making friendships and alliances with people from completely different backgrounds.

Outside the conference hall, we visited a small town called Delft. We saw stunning churches and historical buildings. Everywhere you looked was a beautiful piece of tradition. With the weather of frosty cold and fog perfectly framing this beautiful country.

Overall, this trip was more than just a conference and shopping; it was an experience. We learned about countries and cultures, learnt about foreign policy and how we can work to solve global matters, and most importantly, we did it all while looking extremely sharp in our formal wear.
