At the Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), students are encouraged to pursue their interests and talents both inside and beyond the classroom. This was proudly demonstrated at the 2026 SUKMA Games, where AISM Year 10 student Arif and alumna Eliza Tan achieved outstanding sporting success representing Selangor in fencing and swimming.
AISM Student Wins Gold in Fencing at SUKMA 2026
The SUKMA Games are one of Malaysia’s leading multi-sport events for young athletes, bringing together state contingents to compete across a wide range of sporting disciplines.
This year, AISM Year 10 student Arif represented Selangor in fencing and won a gold medal.
His achievement has been particularly meaningful for the AISM community. In addition to competing at this level, Arif shares his passion for the sport as a fencing coach for younger students during AISM’s Wednesday Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme.
For our Junior School students, having the opportunity to learn from a fellow AISM student competing at national level provides a powerful example of commitment, perseverance and what can be achieved through consistent effort.
Sport and co-curricular activities are an important part of student life at AISM, giving students opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills and build confidence beyond their academic learning.

AISM Alumna Eliza Tan Sets Three National Swimming Records
AISM was equally proud to celebrate alumna Eliza Tan, who spent five years at the school before moving to Singapore.
A former member of the AISM Barracudas Swim Team and recipient of the Andrew Colby Award, Eliza delivered an exceptional performance at SUKMA 2026. She was named Female Athlete of the Games after winning seven gold medals and setting three new national records.
Her achievements are an inspiring example for current students of where passion, dedication and opportunity can lead. They also reflect the importance of giving young people the confidence and support to discover their strengths and pursue what they love.

Sport and Co-Curricular Activities at AISM
Success looks different for every child. It might mean competing at national level, performing on stage, discovering a new interest, supporting a teammate or simply finding the confidence to try something for the first time.
As an Australian international school in Malaysia, AISM provides a balanced education where academic learning is complemented by sport, the arts, leadership, service and a wide range of co-curricular activities.
These experiences help students develop resilience, teamwork, confidence and a strong sense of belonging. Arif and Eliza’s achievements are wonderful examples of what young people can accomplish when their interests are encouraged and their efforts supported.
We congratulate Arif and Eliza on their outstanding achievements and are proud to celebrate their success with the wider AISM community.
We shine when our students shine.
