At Australian International School Malaysia (AISM), performing arts is about much more than taking to the stage. It gives students the opportunity to find their voice, build confidence, work with others and experience what they can achieve when they step beyond their comfort zone.
Our Junior School production of PAN! brought this to life, with students from the Early Learning Centre (ELC) through to Year 5 coming together for a celebration of music, drama, dance and creativity.

Building Confidence from the Early Years
For our youngest ELC learners, simply stepping onto the stage was an achievement.
With enthusiasm, courage and plenty of joy, they had the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, express themselves and experience the excitement of being part of something bigger.
As students progressed through the year levels, so did the complexity of their performances — from increasingly elaborate choreography and singing to stronger stage presence and confidence.

By Year 5, our senior Junior School students were taking centre stage with maturity and assurance, reflecting not just hours of rehearsal, but the confidence and independence they have developed throughout their Junior School journey.
Learning Through Performing Arts
Performing arts plays an important role in AISM’s approach to education.
Through music, drama and dance, students learn to communicate confidently, collaborate with others, respond to challenges and contribute as part of a team. A production such as PAN! gives them the opportunity to put those skills into practice in a very real way.
There are nerves. There are rehearsals that don’t always go perfectly. There are moments when students need to persevere, support one another and try again.

And then there is the moment they step onto the stage.
That journey is every bit as important as the final performance.
A Production Built by a Community
PAN! was also very much a community production.
Led by Director Ms Lafferty and Co-Directors Ms Suhana and Mr McCord, the Performing Arts team worked alongside Junior School staff to bring the production to life through rehearsals, costumes, makeup, props and stage preparations.
A live band featuring Mr Kelly, Dr Duggan, Ms Cox, Cikgu Fadhly and Mr McCord added another dimension to the performances.
Parents also played an important role, giving their time and creativity to designing sets, preparing costumes, building props and supporting students throughout the production.

It was a fitting reflection of the AISM spirit: We shine when our students shine.
PAN! may have ended with the final curtain, but the confidence, friendships and experiences built along the way will last much longer.
